Volunteer Highlight – Lauren Richards

Lauren Richards is one of our amazing facilitators in SOOR Active.  She leads a weekly cardio class for athletes and has been involved with our SOOR Active fitness and wellness community for the past year.  Last summer Lauren contacted SOOR to see how she could get involved and volunteer virtually, as she’d previously volunteered with Special Olympics and was very passionate about our mission.  Born in Pendelton, OR, Lauren now attends the Clairmont McKenna College in California, where she is majoring in Biology. She was thrilled at the idea of leading a workout class and to have the opportunity to interact with athletes.  Lauren plays softball at Clairmont McKenna College currently and previously competed in basketball, volleyball, and swimming. Lauren’s cardio class has been instrumental in keeping athletes active and engaged during the pandemic, and has provided a consistent weekly opportunity for everyone to have fun working out virtually together. “One of my favorite things about SOOR Active and being a SOOR Active facilitator is being able to see the wonderful community of athletes and instructors. Everyone wants to see each other succeed and is always looking for ways to help one another out! I love the community and support that Special Olympics creates for athletes!”

We are so appreciative of Lauren sharing her passion for fitness and helping to keep our athletes healthy and engaged this past year!
