UCS: Whole School Engagement

Whole School Engagement is awareness and education activities that promote inclusion and positively impact the school climate by including students, teachers, staff and administrators (pep rallies, awareness campaigns, assemblies, and fundraisers). School-wide opportunities focused on social inclusion raise awareness and create an educational environment where respect and acceptance are the norm and all students feel included and engaged.

Polar Plunge

The Polar Plunge is a series of events where people brave the cold by running or jumping into freezing water for the athletes of Special Olympics Oregon. Polar Plunge is also a fundraising opportunity for schools, offering an opportunity for a 50/50 revenue share if they register a team and meet the minimum fundraising requirement.

Banner Recognition

Special Olympics banner recognition is the highest honor given to schools and colleges that demonstrate a commitment to inclusion, achieved by meeting our 10 national standards. To earn a National Banner, a school must create and maintain an inclusive environment through a three-part strategy: Unified Sports, inclusive youth leadership, and whole-school engagement.

Assemblies

A Special Olympics assembly is a type of event held as part of the Special Olympics Unified Champion Schools® program to promote awareness, education, and social inclusion within a
school community.
