Volunteer Highlight: MaryAnne Mollahan
MaryAnne Mollahan and Gabriel Scott both attend Forest Grove High School and are active members of their Unified Champion School program. They are both juniors and participated in Unified Basketball for 3 years. In addition, they are active in Inclusive Youth Leadership. They both have helped organize and lead leadership sessions for the annual Youth Leadership Summit that draws over 250 students from the Portland Metro area. These sessions are “hands-on” and engage students and teach the participants new ideas to take back to their schools with the goal of making the school programs and activities more inclusive. They also have led these sessions for the Middle School Youth Summit.
Last September both MaryAnne and Gabriel were selected as 2 US Youth Ambassadors. This is a very prestigious honor as there are only 12 Ambassadors in the United States. They will serve a 2 year term where they with use their experiences and voice to advocate for Special Olympics and Unified Champion School programs. They will do this through social media, public speaking and ongoing meetings and networking.
In addition to Unified Champion School activities, Maryanne enjoys spending time with her family competing in unified sports and playing lacrosse. She also enjoys dance, watching movies, playing card games and board games, and going to the lake or beach and is a great leader in the Forest Grove High School Renaissance Leadership Class. Gabriel enjoys track, cross country and his favorite is wrestling. He helps lead Forest Grove High School in the ASB Leadership class and serves up a great cup of coffee at the school’s coffee shop.
MaryAnne and Gabriel have formed a strong bond as teammates and friends and are excited to advocate in this bigger forum!
Thank you MaryAnne and Gabriel for your time, talent and energy for our movement!
