Legacy Giving

Leave a Lasting Legacy

Your planned gift ensures athletes thrive for generations to come.

When you include Special Olympics Oregon in your estate plan, you create opportunities that last far beyond a single season. Legacy gifts fund training programs, competitions, and health services for athletes with intellectual disabilities across our state. No matter the size, your gift makes a difference.

Give by Will or Trust

A charitable gift from your estate is a favored method of giving that
enables you to achieve your financial goals and benefit Special Olympics Oregon. No other planned gift is as simple to make or as easy to change
should you ever need the assets during your lifetime.

A bequest may be right for you if:

  • You want to make a gift to Special Olympics Oregon.
  • You want the flexibility to change your mind.
  • You want continued access to your wealth, should you need it.
  • You are concerned about outliving your resources.

Sample Language for a Donor’s Will or Trust” I give, devise and bequeath: [DESCRIBE ASSETS FOR BEQUEST] to Special Olympics Oregon, tax ID 93-0752969, an Oregon nonprofit company.

The IRA Gift (QCD)

Your IRA can provide a tax-smart way to make an impact with Special Olympics Oregon now. The Qualified Charitable Distribution or QCD
(sometimes called an “IRA Charitable Rollover”) is a great
way to make a
tax-free gift and satisfy your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD), too.

How Do I Qualify?

The Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) offers multiple benefits for
making gifts from your IRA.

  • You must be 70½ years or older at the time of the gift.

  • Gifts must go directly from your IRA to Special Olympics Oregon.

  • For 2026, total QCD gifts cannot exceed $111,000 per donor.

Contact your IRA administrator to request a Qualified Charitable
Distribution from your IRA to Special Olympics Oregon. Tax ID 93-0752969.

Stocks & Bonds

Make a gift of publicly-traded securities to Special Olympics Oregon and potentially save income tax and capital gains tax, too. A gift of publicly-traded securities could be right for you if:
  • You own publicly-traded securities that you have owned for at least one year.
  • Some of these securities have increased in value since you bought them.
  • Some of these securities may provide you with little or no income.
How it works
  • You transfer shares of one or more publicly-traded securities, such as stock, bonds, and mutual funds, to SOOR.
  • The two most common ways to give publicly-traded securities are to make an outright gift of your securities or to make a gift of your securities and receive payments for life.
  • If you would like to transfer securities, please reach out to Lindsey Goodwick for DTC transfer instructions. Contact below.
