Golf Training, Rules and Points of Emphasis

Rules:  The official Special Olympics Oregon Sports Rules shall govern all Special Olympics Oregon golf competitions. These rules are based upon the United States Golf Association (USGA) rules for golf (www.usga.org). USGA rules shall be employed except when they are in direct conflict with the official Special Olympics Oregon Sports Rules. In such cases, the official Special Olympics Oregon Sports Rules shall apply.

Points of Emphasis:

  • Swing and miss is a stroke on the course and skills
  • If a double par stroke is played without holing the shot, the team shall record a score of “double par X” and proceed to the next hole.
  • If a ball goes in a hazard from the tee shot you must move forward to the drop point – closest point to where the ball entered the hazard and take a penalty stroke.
  • Levels 2 & 3 – Only one hit from the tee box on a tee.  If the person teeing off misses the next player must hit the ball from the ground.
  • Tee Shots – Please refer to Rules, Section D 3.a.i.1
