Unified Timbers Try Outs

Tryouts for this Special Olympics Oregon Coed Unified Soccer Team are open to Special Olympics Athletes (ages 15-24), Unified Partners ages (15-24), and Coaches with space limited to the first 50 registrations.
When: Sunday, October 29, 2023, from 10am to 12pm

What is the Portland Timbers SOOR Unified Soccer MLS Exchange Program?Â
The program is a partnership between the Portland Timbers and Special Olympics Oregon that brings individuals with and without intellectual disabilities, ages 15-24, together as teammates to participate in unique training, competition, and social experiences.
Players for this coed Special Olympics team will be selected based on 3 key factors:Â
•Ability to work with and value teammates of all abilities
•Commitment to the Unified experience and to their fellow teammates
•Understanding of the game and rules of soccer
What are some of the expectations once selected?
•Complete all necessary paperwork once selected for the team. This may include officially registering as a Special Olympics athlete (obtaining a physical from the doctor), a Special Olympics Unified Partner (may include a background check), or a coach.
•Attend and participate in all team activities*: practices, games and social events on match weekends.
•Provide their own transportation to all team activities*.
•Provide their own soccer cleats and shin guards, and to wear them at all practices and matches.
•Our goal is for the Portland Timbers SOOR team to play 1-2 matches against other MLS-affiliated Special Olympics Unified Soccer teams from other states. We will look to schedule these games once the 2024 MLS season schedule is released.
*Please note that all team activities will happen in the Portland Metro Area. Practices will begin in February and will continue through the MLS Season.
What is Special Olympics Unified Sports?Â
The goal of Unified Sports is to bring people with and without disabilities together to compete, learn and grow on the same team.
Where are tryouts located?Â
The tryout will take place at Hillsboro Stadium (4450 NE Century Blvd, Hillsboro, OR 97124). Please enter though Gate B and park in the Green Lot. SEE MAP
Try outs will begin promptly at 10:00am and will finish around 12:00pm
Along with in-person try outs, we will also be conducting observations at the following Unified Soccer competitions:
•UCS Tournament, Wilsonville HS 10/21
•Saxon Games, South Salem HS 10/22
